A science museum project featuring Donghong Metal's aluminum-magnesium-manganese fish-scale roof tiles, together with full technical support from our team, has recently been completed. Covering roughly 2,000 square meters, the building draws its design concept from the "Tai Chi Fish / Leaping Fish," expressed through twin fan-shaped shells and a sweeping, freeform curved roof — combining traditional cultural symbolism with contemporary science-and-culture architecture, and giving the city a striking new cultural landmark.
As a hub for public science education and cultural expression, a science museum's exterior must convey a sense of technology while carrying local cultural meaning. The design team drew inspiration from the "Tai Chi Fish," using the symmetry and interplay of twin fan-shaped shells to evoke the dynamic, flowing posture of a "leaping fish." Such a complex, freeform curved roof placed extremely demanding requirements on the flexibility, conformability, and visual expressiveness of the roofing material — precisely where Donghong Metal's fish-scale tiles excel.

To meet the demands of this project's complex double-curved freeform roof, Donghong Metal supplied its Metal Fish-Scale Tile, a product purpose-built for high-difficulty curved-surface applications, closely matching the project's design requirements:
Thanks to this overlapping fish-scale appearance, the roof surface shows shifting reflections of light from different angles, as if scales were rippling with light and wind — vividly bringing the "leaping fish" theme to life, and giving the building a sense of motion within its static structure.

Well-suited to curved surfaces, domes, and freeform roofs of all kinds, metal fish-scale tiles are widely used in science museums, cultural centers, and other landmark cultural buildings. On this project, Donghong Metal's team provided end-to-end technical support — from material selection and fabrication to on-site installation guidance — ensuring a precise, seamless fit across the large curved freeform structure. The result faithfully realized the design team's vision of "layered scales flowing across a curved surface," while giving the roof durable, long-term protection.
From the cultural meaning of the "Tai Chi Fish," to the dynamic posture of a "leaping fish," to the layered language of the fish-scale tile itself, this project achieves a strong unity between design vision and building material craftsmanship. Donghong Metal will continue to deepen its expertise in metal roofing materials, drawing on proven product quality and extensive experience with curved and freeform-roof projects to deliver outstanding solutions for future science museums, cultural landmarks, and beyond.
